Description

Construction of new music school together with alterations and repairs to existing school buildings. The new facility provides a 150 seat recital room, ICT room, recording control room, percussion and rock room and music library.

 

The new building has an unique curved, glazed ceramic tiled roof and the project included the construction of two boreholes for the provision of ground source heating and cooling systems.

 

Specialists carried out cricket ball impact tests on the new glazed cladding before it was installed as the building sits adjacent to the sports field.

 

Challenge

Restricted access routes to the site areas within a live school environment

Solution

Close liaison between the Contractor and Brighton College's Director of Estates to ensure safety for all.

​

Result

A successful project which won the RIBA South East Award.
